LOVE LIFTS US TO INEFFABLE HEIGHTS

«LOVE UNITES US TO GOD, LOVE COVERS THE MULTITUDE OF SINS, […] IN LOVE ALL GOD’S CHOSEN FIND PERFECTION»

Love is something fundamental for every human being, believer or non-believer, the only difference being that the non-believer bases his love on something different from God; but in the end it is still love.

Let us look at ethics from its idea as a custom, as an ethos,[3] taking it as a path, style or way of life safe and secure.

From the point of view that has been mentioned, ethics becomes a path on which, if it started from love, it becomes possible to have as a goal the utopian dream of peace and solidarity among all.

Because if men and women unite in the same ethical path in which they are guided by love, it becomes impossible for them to avoid feelings as: compassion, tolerance, respect… that little by little build peace.

Love makes man be supportive with others, and for this reason I would like to say that the best way to take ethics from its foundation is in the caritas.

It must also be clear that from the believer point of view «Deus caritas est», that is, God is love or God is the love; therefore, everyone who loves has God in his heart and is characterized by:

«helping those who offend him by making them his friends; he does good to his enemies. …] he is sweet, good, modest, sincere and loves others, does not despise … recognizes in the other his true brother.

Aristides of Athens [4]

LOVE MUST DWELL IN EVERY HEART

In conclusion, we can say that love must dwell in the heart of the believer or non-believer and this love is something so great that it goes beyond mere sentiment, even permeating the attitudes, personality, morals and ethics of every human being.

St Augustine was not mistaken when he said: «Love and do what you will»[5], because the one who love in an orderly and sincere way can never harm or damage themselves.

Santa Isabel Ana Bayley Seton
